Alexander Isak could be the latest player ruled out of Arsenal’s match against Newcastle United through injury, following Tuesday’s setback.

In what was generally a very positive evening for Newcastle United as they won 3-1 against Aston Villa, one major disappointment was the early withdrawal of Alexander Isak through injury.

Isak was forced off in the first half, and Eddie Howe initially played down the severity of the problem.

“We don’t really know, it doesn’t look too serious,” Howe said. “It looks like a slight groin issue. But fingers crossed we get him back quickly.”

But reports since then have suggested the striker could be set for a spell on the sidelines, with Luke Edwards reporting that Isak is set to be out for around two to four weeks with his groin issue.

Edwards adds that it’s too early to say for sure, and further scans could change the picture.

As it stands, however, the update would put Isak’s participation against Arsenal in doubt.

The Gunners host Newcastle in just over three weeks, so if Isak ends up needing the full four weeks for his recovery (or indeed longer), then he’d be ruled out of the clash.

This latest injury follows the recent news that Joelinton will be out for the rest of the season, as one of a few players set to miss the Arsenal game.

Sandro Tonali remains absent through his gambling suspension, and he’s not available to play again this season.

Nick Pope has a shoulder injury, and he’ll also be out for long enough to miss the trip to the Emirates.

But there’s better news elsewhere for the visitors, with Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, and Matt Targett all currently touted to return before the Arsenal match.
