Gary Neville says he wants Arsenal to win the league this year, though he thinks Manchester City look dangerous at the moment.

Gary Neville was one of the primary voices in punditry against Arsenal winning the Premier League in 2022/23, to the frustration of Gunners supporters.

In the summer of 2022, Neville had even predicted that Arsenal would finish outside of the top four in 2022/23, having already missed their “best chance” to make it in the previous season.

Arsenal ended up second, and the former Manchester United man has changed his tune this season.

With the top three currently separated by just two points, Neville gave his view on the title race to his podcast this week.

“I had Arsenal as champions at the start of the season, not many did. I still think City at this moment in time look ominous,” Neville began by admitting.

“But Arsenal, I want Arsenal to do it – for obvious reasons I don’t want Liverpool to win, as much as it would be a fairytale for Jurgen Klopp and what that would mean for Liverpool and him.

“But I just think in terms of what Arsenal did last season, where they just crumbled at the end, I would like to see them this season.”

Manchester City are almost certainly the favourites of most neutrals to win the league at the moment, and with good reason.

Though City aren’t currently top of the table, they have a game in hand on league leaders Liverpool, and a win in that game would put them top.

Pep Guardiola’s side still have games against Liverpool and Arsenal to come, and if they win both of those, they’d be in a commanding position going into the final couple of months.

In recent years, that’s tended to be when City have come into their own, so if neither Arsenal nor Liverpool can build up a lead before April, it’s going to become a very difficult task to claw them back.

Yet Arsenal have reasons to feel optimistic at the moment. Mikel Arteta’s side have already beaten City once this season, and the last couple of weeks have seen them beat Liverpool and thrash West Ham United 6-0.

The Gunners are in form and in touch at the top, so there’s still a chance they could pip the other two at the post.
