Mika Biereth scored for Sturm Graz again on Sunday, meaning he’s now netted in all three competitions he’s played in for his new loan side.

Mika Biereth has made a strong start to his loan with Austrian side Sturm Graz, scoring on his debut in the Austrian Cup, before scoring home and away in their Europa Conference League tie against Slovan Bratislava.

But if there was one blot on Biereth’s early copybook, it was that he still hadn’t netted a league goal in his first two attempts.

That changed on Sunday, with the Arsenal loanee scoring just nine minutes into Sturm’s Austrian Bundesliga match away to WSG Tirol.

Biereth was quick to pounce on a rebound in the penalty area, firing home with his first touch despite three defenders and a goalkeeper standing in his path.

Sturm doubled their lead three minutes later, and it was lucky they did, as a second-half red card led to a tense final half-hour.

Biereth came off as Sturm adjusted to defend their 2-0 advantage, and they saw the game out for the three points.

Sturm will keep fighting on three fronts, sitting just two points off the top of the Austrian Bundesliga table, as well as making the semi-final of the Austrian Cup and the last-16 of the Europa Conference League.

RB Salzburg are their main rival domestically, as they’re the league leaders and Sturm’s cup semi-final opponents. In Europe, Sturm are set to face Lille next.

Biereth now has four goals in six games for his new loan club, after contributing 11 goals and assists in his 11 starts for Motherwell in the first half of the season.

That’s 15 g/a between the two loan spells so far, an excellent return for a second season in senior football.

There’s already talk that Sturm are hoping to keep Biereth around for the long term, but on current form, Arsenal are going to want to have a closer look at him first.
