Arsenal’s Mika Biereth has made a strong start on loan with Sturm Graz, and he helped the team through to the last-16 of the Europa Conference League with another goal on Thursday.

Sturm were already leading 4-1 against Slovan Bratislava following the first leg, in which Biereth also scored. But they had to travel away to the Slovakian club for the second leg, with the hosts looking to launch a comeback in front of their fans.

Biereth made sure that didn’t come to pass, bagging another goal with a typically battling finish in the 52nd minute.

Sturm defender David Affengruber launched the ball forwards in a rather hopeful fashion, and Biereth took advantage of a misjudgement by one defender before touching the ball past another to get himself in on goal.

Taking one more touch to set himself for a finish on his weaker left foot, Biereth fired underneath the goalkeeper’s grasp for 1-0.

The match finished 1-0, with the tie ending 5-1 on aggregate, and Sturm are into the last-16 draw on Friday.
