Arsenal have confirmed the four nominees for their January Player of the Month award, with voting now underway.
Arsenal announced their picks for their January Player of the Month award this week, with William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Bukayo Saka all nominated. You can vote here.
The Gunners only played three games in January, suffering elimination from the FA Cup to kick off the month, but bouncing back with a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace and a 2-1 away victory over Nottingham Forest.
With the Gunners only conceding once in their two league games, it’s perhaps no surprise that both Saliba and Gabriel received nominations for their defensive efforts.
The pair combined well to keep a clean sheet against Crystal Palace, and they were only undone late on by a somewhat fortunate goal from Nottingham Forest.
Even the Liverpool defeat had the caveat that it was Jakub Kiwior who headed past his own goalkeeper to break the deadlock, then a very late counter-attack to add a second as Arsenal pushed forward in all-or-nothing fashion.
Gabriel’s two goals against Palace also likely helped him to receive a nomination.
Jesus’ nomination was also well deserved, as he set up Leandro Trossard’s goal against Crystal Palace before providing both a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over Forest. Jesus had missed the Liverpool defeat through injury.
Finally, Saka is the only player on the list of nominees to have already won an Arsenal Player of the Month award this season, having previously succeeded in the September vote.
This time around, the winger was nominated for his assist against Palace and his goal against Forest.
If anyone other than Saka wins the award, they would be Arsenal’s sixth unique winner of the season, with the previous winners as follows:
- August 2023 – Declan Rice
- September 2023 – Bukayo Saka
- October 2023 – Takehiro Tomiyasu
- November 2023 – Kai Havertz
- December 2023 – Martin Odegaard
