Arsenal loanee Tyreece John-Jules saw his loan spell with Derby County coming to an end earlier this week, following Derby’s 3-2 win over Burton Albion.

The striker only moved on a short-term deal last summer, so he could have been back at Arsenal in the last few days if Derby had opted against extending it.

But the 22-year-old was in the squad for Derby’s match against Lincoln City on Saturday, after the club confirmed his loan will now last until the end of the season.

Posting on their website, Derby announced that an agreement has been reached for John-Jules to remain with the club until the summer.

John-Jules spent quite a lot of the first half of the season out injured, leading to some doubts over whether Derby would look to extend his contract beyond the winter window.

But with his recent return to the Derby team, club manager Paul Warne was clearly glad to see him sticking around.

“He is staying until the end of the season, which is good because we are getting more game time out of him,” Warne said.

“We still have to be really cautious with him but he had moments [on Monday night] where you can see why we want him at the football club.

“He will be a big part going forward.”

John-Jules suffered an injury setback early on in his loan spell, ruling him out from September until late November.

The young striker then made his comeback, scoring in a couple of substitute appearances at the end of November and start of December.

After a few more substitute showings, John-Jules made his first start on January 6th, and he made another against Burton Albion on Monday night.

The Arsenal man could yet have a major role to play in his loan team’s promotion push between now and May.
