After his controversial involvement in Newcastle United’s winner in the reverse fixture, Joelinton has been ruled out of their upcoming game against Arsenal through injury.
Arsenal are set to face Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium a month from today, looking to overturn perceived injustices at the manner of their defeat at St. James’ Park earlier in the season.
But one player who won’t be involved with the visitors on February 24th is Joelinton, with Newcastle reporting that the player has undergone surgery on a thigh injury.
Newcastle write that Joelinton is expected to return to action in May 2024, long after their trip to north London.
Joelinton was controversially involved in Newcastle’s winning goal against Arsenal back in November, as his push on Gabriel Magalhaes was deemed insufficient for a foul to be called – despite a lengthy VAR review.
The midfielder will now be one of a few players missing for Newcastle against Arsenal in February.
Sandro Tonali remains absent through his gambling suspension, and he’s not available to play again this season.
Nick Pope has a shoulder injury, and he’ll also be out for long enough to miss the trip to the Emirates.
But there’s better news elsewhere for the visitors, with Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Matt Targett, Jacob Murphy, Callum Wilson, and Tino Livramento all currently touted to return before the Arsenal match.
Newcastle have a lengthy injury list at the moment, but it seems that’s not set to last.
