Arsenal are in talks for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana and are considering submitting an offer, according to reports from Belgium.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that intensive talks are ongoing between Arsenal and Everton over midfielder Amadou Onana.
The player is reportedly keen on the move, and he’s prioritising staying in the Premier League. Tavolieri claims things could now develop quickly.
Pieter-Jan Calcoen of Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad Sport confirms that Arsenal intend to push for the signing, and they’re considering making an offer to Everton.
Calcoen adds that Arsenal are planning a January move, and Everton are looking for around €60m (£51.7m).
This is far from the first time Arsenal have been linked with a move for Onana.
Back in 2022, when the midfielder was still playing for Lille, Tavolieri claimed Arsenal had met with Onana’s camp over a potential move.
Onana went on to join Everton, but just six months later in January 2023, reports suggested Arsenal were interested in the midfielder once again.
Again, the reported interest came to nothing, with the Gunners focusing their funds on bids for Moises Caicedo, before later signing Declan Rice.
But with Jorginho seemingly only a stop-gap solution at Arsenal, and speculation around the futures of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, with all three players in their thirties, it’s inevitable the Gunners will look to pursue another midfielder soon.
Everton are in some financial difficulties at the moment, and they’re under particular scrutiny following their recent charge by the Premier League.
Perhaps the conditions could be right for Arsenal to make a bid.
