In a recent behind-closed-doors friendly in Albufeira, Portugal, Arsenal showcased their strength with a convincing 3-0 win over Feyenoord, featuring a goal from Miedema and a Bettie brace.

Alongside on-field success, the club is also making strategic in the transfer market and gearing up for an FA Cup encounter.

Arsenal played in the behind-closed-door friendly played in Albufeira, Portugal, defeating Feyenoord 3-0 with a Vivianne Miedema goal and Jen Bettie brace.

The team also debuted their green third kit on Sunday.

On the transfer side, there was a sighting of new signing Emily Fox in what should be a like-for-like replacement for Noëlle Maritz, who has joined Aston Villa on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, broadcaster ATA football has linked Lia Wälti to a Real Madrid move, either in January or in the summer.

I would be more than surprised to see the Swiss midfielder depart the club in the January transfer window. Real Madrid are clearly reluctant to spend money as they missed out on Natalie Björn from Everton despite being linked for a long time and the player being available to buy.

Chelsea are likely to sign the Swedish defender, as they will pay the requested transfer fee.

Now, if we look at our central midfield, our two experienced midfielders will be 34 (Kim Little) and 31 (Lia Wälti) next season. So, succession planning is a question that needs to be asked.

Luckily, the club has actually worked that side very well already with three younger players at the club: Victoria Pelova 24, Kyra Conney-Cross 21 and Kathrine Kühl 20.

All three are fully-fledged internationals and they are very talented, too, which is needed in that area of the pitch. Should Wälti decide to leave in the summer, the club could buy another midfielder or promote youngsters like Laila Harbert, 17, who is currently on loan at Watford Women.

The other older players at the club are Jennifer Beattie 32, Amanda Ilestedt 30, Sabrina D’Angelo 30, Cloe Lacasse 30, Steph Catley 29, and Caitlin Foord 29. The only question mark for me is really Jennifer Beattie as the other players should be at their prime and performing well.

On the other side of the scale, the club has sent a lot of promising youngsters on loan in the Championship: Michelle Agyemang (Watford), Araya Dennis (Crystal Palace), Freya Godfrey (Charlton), Laila Harbert (Watford) and Katie Reed (Watford).

It will be important to see if they can be included in the 25-player squad next season or will be sent for another season loan to mature. The club will also welcome back Teyah Goldie, 19, who is recovering from her second ACL in a row who will hopefully be ready at the start of the 2024/25 season.

Arsenal go into the new year still chasing three trophies and winning at least one of them should be the minimum acceptable, starting with the FA Cup and a home game next Sunday against Watford Women at 2 pm at Borehamwood FC.

The game is sold out which is becoming the norm for weekend games at Meadow Park.
