Arsenal want £30m to sell Eddie Nketiah this month, and reports of an injury to Gabriel Jesus will only strengthen that stance.
Alex Wood reports for the Daily Star that though Eddie Nketiah is a target for Crystal Palace, Arsenal will demand £30m to sell the striker this month.
Wood writes that Arsenal would allow Nketiah to leave if they secured a replacement, but only if a club meets their valuation.
The Gunners would also want to include a sell-on clause as part of any potential transfer.
With Nketiah having signed a five-year deal in 2022, he still has plenty of time to run on his contract, so it won’t be difficult to hold onto him.
£30m might seem like quite a lot for a backup striker, but Gabriel Jesus’ fitness uncertainty makes the fee seem a lot more reasonable.
Jesus reportedly has a knee issue, and it’s not known yet whether the problem is serious or not.
If it is, Nketiah may well find himself as Mikel Arteta’s starting striker for a while. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened this season.
David Ornstein recently reported for The Athletic that Crystal Palace have a firm interest in Nketiah, but the Gunners haven’t yet shown any willingness to let the striker go.
Ornstein adds that if Arsenal’s stance changes, he expects Palace to push hard for the signing.
The BBC confirm that Palace are interested in signing Nketiah, but a January deal looks difficult, again due to Arsenal’s unwillingness to sell.
According to the BBC, Palace are long-term admirers of Nketiah, and they also wanted to sign him last season under Patrick Vieira.
The deal didn’t go through then, but the club still evidently hold an interest in the 24-year-old.
Sami Mokbel had reported for the Daily Mail that Nketiah was attracting interest around the Premier League, with Arsenal already having knocked back at least one enquiry from Crystal Palace for the striker.
Fabrizio Romano then wrote that there’s interest in Nketiah from five or six Premier League clubs, as well as some Bundesliga clubs.
