Arsenal’s quest to strengthen their attacking line has led them to show interest in Getafe’s striker, Borja Mayoral.

However, Mayoral himself says his commitment is with Getafe, despite Arsenal’s reported bid.

Arsenal’s reported interest in Getafe‘s striker Borja Mayoral has been a topic of much discussion lately, especially considering the Gunners’ search for a prolific striker to revitalise their frontline and claims of a £22m Arsenal bid.

However, the situation has been clarified by both the player and the club, with Mayoral himself expressing his focus on Getafe with no current intention of moving away.

Mayoral, a former Real Madrid youngster, has been in fine form for Getafe, scoring 12 goals in 19 La Liga appearances this season, making him one of the top scorers in Spain.

His performances have naturally attracted interest, with Arsenal reportedly making a significant £22 million bid for him. Despite this, Getafe has shown a strong reluctance to let go of their player, reportedly rejecting Arsenal‘s offer and holding out for a sum closer to £39 million.

The player himself, speaking to Estadio Deportivo, however, stated, “It is news that has surprised me too. I have not spoken with the club or with my representative. I am very focused on Getafe, on a day-to-day basis.”

The desire to play in the Euros with Spain is another factor for Mayoral to consider. A move to Arsenal would mean adapting to a new country and football style, which could potentially impact his form at a crucial time for his international ambitions.

Getafe also have ‘no intention’ of selling him this month.

Arsenal‘s search for a striker has been driven by Mikel Arteta’s eagerness to address goal-scoring issues within the team. Initially, Brentford‘s Ivan Toney was the preferred choice, but Brentford’s hefty valuation and Toney’s commitment to the club reportedly led Arsenal to consider alternatives like Mayoral.

Despite Arsenal‘s reported bid and interest, Arteta had expressed doubts about signing a new striker in this window, focusing on supporting and developing the current squad. “At the moment it does not look realistic [that Arsenal will sign a striker],” said Arteta.
