Arsenal have reportedly tabled a £22 million offer for Getafe’s Borja Mayoral.

With this bid, Arsenal aims to revitalise their frontline and respond to the urgent need for a prolific striker.

Arsenal have reportedly made a decisive move to strengthen their attacking options by submitting a £22 million bid for Getafe‘s striker Borja Mayoral, a former Real Madrid academy graduate.

This season, Mayoral has netted 12 goals in 19 La Liga games.

The Gunners, under Mikel Arteta‘s leadership, are eager to address their goal-scoring problems but are restricted in what they can do during this window due to the club actually adhering to FFP rules, unlike others.

Initially, Brentford‘s Ivan Toney was Arteta’s preferred choice to strengthen the frontline, but Brentford’s hefty £100 million valuation, and Toney’s desire to repay Brentford for standing by him during his ban, has redirected Arsenal‘s attention to Mayoral.

Despite Arsenal‘s significant offer, Getafe is holding out for a sum closer to £39 million for their star striker who is currently valued at around €15m.

Mayoral’s journey to becoming a target for Arsenal began after his move from Real Madrid to Getafe in the summer of 2022 for €10 million. His impact at Getafe has been notable, with 29 goals and four assists in 78 appearances, including two goals in the Copa del Rey.

His performances this season have been particularly standout, contributing significantly to Getafe‘s rise to eighth in the La Liga standings and within touching distance of European qualification.

This isn’t Mayoral’s first brush with Premier League interest. Crystal Palace previously eyed him during his time at Roma. Now, three years later, he emerges as a potential solution to Arsenal‘s attacking woes, especially following the team’s recent lacklustre showings in front of goal, most notably in their loss to Liverpool.

Arteta had expressed doubts about signing a new striker, emphasising the need to support and develop the current squad. “At the moment it does not look realistic [that Arsenal will sign a striker],” Arteta stated. He stressed the importance of improving results with the existing players and providing them with the necessary support and training.

While Brentford and Fulham have also shown interest in the 26-year-old, Arsenal‘s swift action positions them as the frontrunners in the race to secure Mayoral’s services.
