Mohamed Elneny is set to rejoin training after his injury, but Arsenal still have another few injury absentees for Saturday’s Liverpool clash.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Mikel Arteta gave a team news update on his Arsenal squad ahead of their trip to Anfield this weekend.

“Thomas Partey is still finalising his rehab. He still hasn’t trained with the team yet,” Arteta began.

“Mo Elneny will hopefully join us this afternoon to see how he feels about it. For the rest, no news. Jorginho is still a doubt. ”

The Evening Standard reported earlier this week that Arsenal were hoping to have Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey, and Mohamed Elneny back by the time Arsenal face Liverpool in the FA Cup on January 7th, if not sooner.

It seems Elneny is set for an early return, but Jorginho’s potential absence would be a shame. Arsenal are certainly short on alternatives to Declan Rice in midfield right now.

Fabio Vieira and Jurrien Timber are both still absent with injuries as well, and unlike the others, they aren’t expected back in the next fortnight.

Despite the injuries, Arsenal should still have most of their first-choice side available against Liverpool.

The front three of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus are all fit, as are the midfield trio of Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice.

Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba should start at centre-back as usual, with David Raya in goal, so the only potential starters missing are Timber and Tomiyasu in one or both of the full-back roles.

Oleksandr Zinchenko should start on the left, and Ben White will have to keep playing amid rumours of a niggling injury.
