Wolves are looking into a loan move for Aaron Ramsdale with an obligation to buy in the summer, according to a report.

Alex Wood reports for the Daily Star that Aaron Ramsdale is top of Wolves’ shortlist of potential replacements for Jose Sa, with their current number one wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia and Wolves boss Gary O’Neil keen to cash in.

Wolves are increasingly confident they’ll sell Sa in January, despite putting a £35m asking price on his head, and Ramsdale has been earmarked as his replacement.

Wood adds that whilst Ramsdale is happy to fight for his place at Arsenal, he’d prefer guaranteed first-team action.

Wolves wouldn’t be able to pay upfront to sign Ramsdale in January, as their financial situation remains precarious, but they’re looking into a loan deal with an option to buy for the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Despite that report, there are a number of reasons why a Ramsdale move to Wolves seems unlikely.

For a start, Fabrizio Romano has suggested in recent days that there haven’t been any changes in Ramsdale’s situation, and it remains likely he’ll end up staying until the summer as it stands.

On top of that, Ramsdale has previously had some animosity with Wolves in particular.

The goalkeeper was brought up a West Bromwich Albion fan, and he celebrated the win away to Wolves last year with the traditional West Brom “boing boing” celebration in front of the Wolves fans.

Later that same year, Ramsdale responded to quotes from Ruben Neves about Arsenal “over-celebrating” victories by sprinting up the pitch and waving his arms in the air in front of Neves after the final whistle of another win.

Perhaps he could put that behind him for the good of his playing career, but you’d imagine Wolves are far from Ramsdale’s first-choice destination.
