Aaron Ramsdale remains likely to stay at Arsenal until at least the summer, with a January transfer looking complicated.

Fabrizio Romano reports that there are no changes in Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at the moment.

Romano writes that it’s not easy for a player like Ramsdale to move, because it would have to be a major club coming in for him. Unless that suddenly happens, Ramsdale is set to remain at Arsenal until the summer.

Ramsdale has had to settle for a bench role at Arsenal in recent months, following the arrival of David Raya, and Mikel Arteta admitted that’s never easy.

“Aaron Ramsdale is one of many players who is playing less than he wants. There are many unfortunately in a dressing room of 24 players,” Arteta said on Friday.

“The behaviour we always demand is to challenge and to make each other better — just show me that I’m wrong.”

In another season, we might not even be talking about a transfer for Ramsdale, so soon after the signing of his goalkeeping rival Raya.

But with Euro 2024 coming up, you can perhaps understand why there’s particular interest in the situation right now.

That’s probably behind recent quotes from former Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman on the subject, though he also admitted a January move seems unlikely.

“If he’s not playing [for Arsenal], it’s going to affect his [England] chances,” Seaman said.

“I think January will be a bit too soon [for a move away].

“Aaron’s too good to be a number two, that is for sure.”

Ramsdale kept a clean sheet in his League Cup appearance away to Brentford, and another at the weekend would certainly do his chances of further minutes no harm.

But the goalkeeper has only made one appearance in all competitions since that day in September, and it was on the losing side of a 3-1 result away to West Ham.

The 25-year-old will be keen to prove he can slot back into the side and ensure he doesn’t stay as Arsenal’s number-two goalkeeper for long.
