Kieran Tierney made a swift return to Real Sociedad’s squad at the weekend after injury, just days after they revealed he was back in training.
When Real Sociedad named their squad to face Sevilla at the weekend, Kieran Tierney was a welcome addition to the bench.
Earlier in the week, Sociedad had confirmed that Tierney was back in training. But it now seems that the defender must have been training for a little while, as he was already fit to make the matchday squad on Sunday.
Arsenal loanee Tierney had been out injured since September, when he was forced off in the first half of Real Sociedad’s win over Athletic Bilbao.
The injury was later confirmed to be a hamstring injury, and it was clearly a serious one, with Tierney missing every October and November fixture until this weekend.
The timing of the injury was certainly a shame, with Tierney catching the eye with a clever assist in his last full game before the injury.
Tierney made six appearances for Real Sociedad before his setback, and he’ll hope his recovery before the midpoint of the campaign will now give him a long run of games before the season is up.
Tierney didn’t end up coming on against Sevilla, and that may have been for the best, in a fiery encounter involving an injury and two red cards.
But he may now get the chance to make a substitute appearance in Sociedad’s Champions League fixture in midweek, as they take on RB Salzburg.
The side have stayed competitive in Tierney’s absence, sitting in fifth in La Liga and top of their Champions League group.
They’ve already confirmed their progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League, with only the issue of the group winner left undetermined.
