Sergio Ramos is a doubt to face Arsenal on Wednesday due to injury, but he’s still hoping to be involved for Sevilla.
Despite reaching 37 years of age, Sergio Ramos remains a starter for Sevilla in the Champions League and La Liga, and he was one of the big names in the starting lineup against Arsenal in October.
Yet there are some doubts over the centre-back’s potential involvement at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
BeIN SPORTS report that Ramos is currently struggling with a calf injury, and he could miss Sevilla’s midweek match against Arsenal.
The player was staying optimistic last week, hoping he’d still be able to feature in the match.
“Let’s take it one day at a time,” Ramos said. “It is true it’s not a big injury, it is a minor injury.
“I hope to be able to play the game but I don’t know whether it might come too soon.
“Let’s just take it one day at a time and let’s see how I’m able to evolve and hopefully, I would love to play.”
The match is a big one for Sevilla and Arsenal, with both clubs knowing that a win could be vital for their hopes of progression.
Arsenal would guarantee a finish above Sevilla with a victory, and could guarantee progression to the knockout stages depending on the other group result. But a win for Sevilla would open the group right up.
More than that, Ramos has made it clear how much he respects Arsenal’s current side, suggesting after the reverse fixture that the Gunners are one of the best in Europe.
“I think that in the end, we played face to face, both against Real Madrid and Arsenal,” Ramos said.
“It is true that it is difficult not to see a difference before we played the teams that, for me, currently play the best in Europe.
“And playing face to face with this type of team and knowing that they create from the back and want to create by playing football from the goalkeeper’s kick, is not easy.”
If he’s fit for involvement on Wednesday, you can guarantee the former Real Madrid man will be raring to go.
