Sergio Ramos believes Arsenal are one of the teams currently playing the best football in Europe, following Sevilla’s 2-1 defeat to the Gunners.

Arsenal ended up coming out on top against Sevilla in midweek, winning 2-1 to go back to the top of Group B following their setback away in Lens.

It ended up being a close-run thing, with Sevilla making a late push for an equalising goal, but the Gunners travelled back to north London with all three points thanks to excellent goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Speaking about the Arsenal match and Sevilla’s recent draw with Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos said his side can’t be too displeased with how they played against a couple of Europe’s top sides.

“I think that in the end, we played face to face, both against Real Madrid and Arsenal,” Ramos said.

“It is true that it is difficult not to see a difference before we played the teams that, for me, currently play the best in Europe.

“And playing face to face with this type of team and knowing that they create from the back and want to create by playing football from the goalkeeper’s kick, is not easy.”

But Ramos is still hopeful Sevilla can get a result when they travel to the Emirates Stadium in their next group game.

“Hopefully. I think that in the end that’s the idea, right?” Ramos asked.

“It is true that you have to believe, you have to be it and look like it. And in that sense, when we go there with the utmost respect, but we have to be convinced that we can win.

“If not, well, if you’re already thinking about something else, it’s better to stay here.”

Arsenal’s Champions League group is nicely poised ahead of the second half of the group fixtures.

The Gunners lead the standings with six points, but unbeaten RC Lens are just one point behind on five. Sevilla and PSV both have two points, meaning either of them could realistically push into the top two in the remaining games.

No one is close to out of it yet, and no one is guaranteed a spot in the knockout stages. But an Arsenal win at home to Sevilla in the next match would put them on the brink, so that has to be the goal.
