Former Arsenal academy coach Ryan Garry has named his England u18 squad for the u17 World Cup, with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly both receiving call-ups.

Though ostensibly an under-17 competition, qualification took place last season, and thus most of the players are now in the under-18 age group.

But Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly were always some of the younger members of the team, with Nwaneri still 16 until next March and Lewis-Skelly only having turned 17 in September.

England join Brazil, Iran, and New Caledonia in Group C, with a group stage fixture list as follows:

  • Saturday, 11th November, 09:00 – New Caledonia vs England
  • Tuesday, 14th November, 12:00 – England vs Iran
  • Friday, 17th November, 12:00 – England vs Brazil

Two teams from each group guarantee qualification to the next round, and four of the best third-placed finishers across the six groups also make it to the knockout stages.

The Round-of-16 will be played between November 20th and 22nd, the Quarter-finals between November 24th and 25th, the semi-finals on November 28th, and the final on December 2nd.

If applicable, the third-place match is on December 1st.

Nwaneri recently returned from injury to rejoin training with the Arsenal first team, and Lewis-Skelly made his comeback from an injury problem of his own to make youth appearances against Sevilla and Brighton last week.

The two players will now miss Arsenal’s u21 match away to Reading in the EFL Trophy, as well as likely missing the UEFA Youth League game against Sevilla on Wednesday, November 8th.

If England progress through the rounds, the pair would also miss the game against Lens on Wednesday, November 29th, and possibly the Premier League 2 fixture away to West Bromwich Albion on December 4th.

But given much of the tournament takes place during the November international break, those are the only four fixtures Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri might miss.
