In photos from Arsenal’s final pre-West Ham training session on Tuesday, a number of youth players could be spotted involved with the senior side.

Most notably, Ethan Nwaneri was part of the session, having missed out on Arsenal’s recent academy fixtures through injury.

Whether or not Nwaneri is fit enough to jump straight into the first-team squad against West Ham is another matter, but it’s good to see him back on the training pitches again.

Amario Cozier-Duberry, Khayon Edwards, Jimi Gower, Ayden Heaven, Bradley Ibrahim, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Reuell Walters were all also part of the session.

In the wake of Gabriel Jesus’ injury, striker Edwards would probably be the most sensible player to call up.

Edwards has previously made senior squads for Arsenal in the Europa League, though he’s still waiting on his competitive debut.

The 20-year-old has five goals and two assists in his last five matches for the Arsenal u21s, including two goals and an assist at the weekend.

Lewis-Skelly, Nwaneri, Ibrahim, and Gower all operate in midfield, whilst Heaven and Walters are defenders. Cozier-Duberry is the only winger of the bunch.

Arsenal traditionally give opportunities to young players in the League Cup, and Charles Sagoe Jr. made his debut in the last round.

But a trip away to West Ham United isn’t an easy one, and Sagoe Jr.’s debut was at least partly due to all the injuries in his position at that time.

It remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will opt to call on any youth players this time around.
