In recent days and weeks, Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a transfer to Newcastle United or Arsenal.

The initial reports claimed that Newcastle were looking to sign Neves on loan from Al-Hilal, but news then broke that the Premier League were set to vote on a motion to block loan moves between associated parties.

That appeared to give Arsenal a way into the race, as Al-Hilal are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, who also own Newcastle.

If Newcastle couldn’t loan Neves, perhaps Arsenal could, and reports suggested the Gunners were interested.

Yet before the vote on associated party loans, David Ornstein broke the news that Neves would be remaining in Saudi Arabia.

Ornstein writes for The Athletic that Neves isn’t expected to leave his current club in January, regardless of whether or not Newcastle can sign him.

There haven’t been any approaches or talks for the midfielder, and he’s happy and settled with his current club.

Al-Hilal won’t be keen to sell, with the team top of their league and their AFC Champions League group, as well as progressing to the King’s Cup quarter-finals.

Neves made 41 appearances for Wolves last season, scoring six goals from midfield before his move to Saudi Arabia.

The 26-year-old has since made 17 appearances for Al-Hilal this season, scoring twice. He has a contract with his current club lasting until 2026.
