Arsenal could be set to hijack Newcastle United’s move for Ruben Neves, but there are no talks ongoing for the transfer as it stands.

With Sandro Tonali suspended, Newcastle United have been looking into the possibility of loaning Ruben Neves from Al-Hilal as cover.

But Premier League clubs are expected to vote to ban loans between associated parties in the January window, which would make such a move impossible.

Al-Hilal are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, who also own Newcastle.

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are now ready to hijack the move, with the Gunners looking to bolster their midfield in the winter window. Edu Gaspar is a long-term admirer of Neves.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that there is historical interest in Neves from Mikel Arteta, who has always liked the player. But Romano adds that there aren’t any negotiations for the transfer at the moment.

Reports from last summer suggested Arsenal were one of the clubs interested in Neves, as Wolves looked to sell him to raise funds.

Newcastle United were another club linked at the time, but Neves instead moved to Al-Hilal.

Neves made 41 appearances for Wolves last season, scoring six goals from midfield.

The 26-year-old has since made 17 appearances for Al-Hilal this season, scoring twice. He has a contract with his current club lasting until 2026.
