Jorginho has admitted he’d like to return to Italy, but it probably won’t be next summer, as he still has ambitions to achieve with Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has made a return to both his club side’s starting lineup and the Italian national team in the last few months, and he’s currently away on international duty this week.

Speaking to the media, Jorginho admitted he’d like to return to his home country for his club football as well, but not yet.

“I miss Italy and I would like to return, in fact, I will definitely return, but I don’t know if next summer will be the right time,” Jorginho said, in quotes reported by Corriere and Goal.

“I feel I still have things to do at Arsenal. It always takes time when you change teams, but the first six months at Arsenal were not negative, on the contrary.

“Obviously, it takes time to understand the mechanisms better, Arteta gives you a billion pieces of information but I’m very happy there.”

Jorginho was linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer, just months after joining the club.

There were links to clubs in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Italy, but the player’s agent and the player himself repeatedly played them down.

“Jorginho is focused on Arsenal, therefore on the Premier League and the Champions League,” Joao Santos said then.

“I’m sure, Jorginho will stay at Arsenal. He’s happy in England. Let’s move on.

“I had some calls from Saudi and also Spanish clubs like him but he’s staying at Arsenal, it’s decided.”

“I’m very happy to stay at Arsenal, to be honest,” Jorginho said in July.

“Those rumours, I’m not sure who was behind it, to be honest, but nothing at the moment has happened to me. I’m quite happy where I am.

“I hope we can do even better next year. It’s been a while [since Arsenal have been in the Champions League]. Everyone is very excited. Everyone can’t wait to play with the ball with the stars. It’s going to be an exciting season for sure.”

Jorginho is now getting the minutes he wanted, playing 14 times (eight starts) already this season. With other midfielders absent through injury, the Italian international has taken the opportunity to nail down a spot in the side.
