Gilberto Silva, an Arsenal legend, has advised Mikel Arteta to approach the January transfer window with the keenness and precision of a “fisherman.”

In the midst of Arsenal’s pursuit of their first Premier League title in two decades, Silva emphasised the need for the Gunners to be swift and strategic in their acquisitions, especially in light of their search for a midfielder and a striker.

Silva, speaking to Mirror Sport, referenced Arsenal’s need for reinforcements in midfield due to Thomas Partey‘s injury issues. He stressed the importance of the January window’s brevity and specificity, suggesting that Arsenal must act decisively to secure the right players who can contribute significantly to the team’s objectives and enhance their style of play.

Among the players linked with a move to Emirates Stadium are Ruben Neves, Ivan Toney, and Dusan Vlahovic. However, Silva underscored that signing players should be about more than just filling gaps; it should be about improving the team’s overall performance.

He also mentioned his discussions with Arsenal’s technical director Edu, highlighting the club’s efforts in utilising data and analysis to identify suitable transfer targets. Silva pointed out the competitive nature of the market, urging Arsenal to be proactive and not miss out on potential opportunities.

Additionally, the article notes that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, currently sidelined with a thigh injury, is expected to be out of action until the new year.

There’s also speculation about Arteta’s openness to selling Partey in January, with Juventus reportedly showing interest.
