Gabriel Jesus has been left out of Brazil’s squad to face Colombia, but he’s remained in Brazil and he’s still in contention to play against Argentina next week.

Brazil are set to face Colombia in their first match of the November international break on Thursday night (or the early hours of Friday morning UK time), but Gabriel Jesus won’t be involved in the clash.

The Evening Standard confirm that Jesus has been left out of the squad to face Colombia, but he remains in Brazil working on his recovery from injury.

Jesus has already been taking part in training this week, though not always with the main group.

But Brazil have been hoping the striker will be fit to face Argentina next Tuesday, and he still hasn’t been ruled out of that game.

From an Arsenal point of view, the club are keeping in contact with Brazil to make sure the player isn’t rushed back.

Reports in recent days had suggested that Jesus’ call-up by Brazil for the November internationals generated discontent behind the scenes at Arsenal, but Brazil staff then attempted to allay fears of a feud with the Gunners.

“There is great alignment of information (between the national team and Arsenal),” Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told a press conference.

“The club always has a different philosophy to the national team, I know how it works. But with relationships and the exchange of information, we want the best.

“We have been monitoring the situation since the injury. Having maintained contact with the club doctor and the athlete, we know that he is recovering from an injury to the back of his right thigh.

“He has already begun his physical adaptation on the field, he has not played yet. When he arrives, he will go through all evaluations and we will continue with the final rehabilitation process.

“We have no decision on when he will play, but it is important to have him close and we called up 24 players for that reason. The player was willing to come, wanting to come, and we value him a lot.”

Brazil will host Argentina on Wednesday, 22nd November at 00:30 GMT in another World Cup qualifier.
