Arsenal are reportedly discontented with Gabriel Jesus’ inclusion in Fernando Diniz’s squad for the upcoming international break.
ESPN report that Gabriel Jesus’ call-up by Brazil for the November internationals generated discontent behind the scenes at Arsenal.
The expectation was that he’d be out of action until after the international break at a minimum, and Jesus’ fitness situation remains uncertain.
“I don’t know (how the situation is),” Arteta said after the game against Burnley on Saturday.
“I’m going to talk to the doctors and him (Gabriel Jesus), because he didn’t do any training with us.
“He’s far from working with the team, but it’s an internal communication between the club and the national team. The first intention is always to seek the best for the player.”
As it stands, it seems Jesus will travel to link up with the Brazil national team today, to be evaluated by their medical staff.
Brazil boss Fernando Diniz isn’t jumping to any conclusions, and he’s willing to cut Jesus from the squad if he’s not fit. But he’s clearly not taking any chances on potentially missing out on the striker if he is fit.
Diniz previously claimed that the primary reason to call up Jesus was because of what happened in the last break, when they avoided calling up Gabriel Martinelli only for the winger to prove his fitness before their games.
“In the last squad, we hadn’t called up Martinelli from Arsenal,” Diniz recalled.
“He didn’t report to the CBF (the Brazilian Football Confederation) in a very complete way, so we didn’t imagine that Martinelli would be ready to play against Venezuela and Uruguay, and [then] he was ready to play before our games.
“Because of this too, we’re going to bring Gabriel [Jesus] in to find out his real condition, because we still have 15 days to go until the games, so we believe he could be fit enough to play, because I like him a lot.
“We have 24 players on the list, and if anything happens to him we won’t need to change the squad.”
Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes have also been called up alongside Jesus, so there will be a strong Arsenal contingent for Brazil over the break.
