Mike McGrath reports that Mason Cotcher has been training with the Arsenal first-team squad this week, after leaving Sunderland, but the player hasn’t committed his future to the Gunners yet.

According to McGrath, Cotcher is also drawing interest from Rangers, and the Scottish club would owe significantly less in compensation than Arsenal.

Even when out of contract, a young player like Cotcher will still draw a training compensation fee, which is presumably why Arsenal are giving the teenager such a long trial period.

Cotcher has now been on trial with Arsenal for well over a month, making his debut in mid-October and going on to make a number of appearances for the Arsenal u18s.

Most notably, the forward scored and assisted on his u18 Premier League debut for the Gunners against Crystal Palace towards the end of last month.

As mentioned, Cotcher was most recently on the books with Sunderland, but he’s now drawing interest from a number of other clubs.

On top of Arsenal and Rangers, Brighton and Hove Albion have also been linked with a move.

Cotcher had a solid 2022/23 campaign, scoring or assisting 10 goals in 19 u18 Premier League games for Sunderland.

He impressed enough to make the bench for the Sunderland senior side in the FA Cup in January, before going on to play for the England u17s over the subsequent international break.

An Arsenal contract could still be in his future, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
