Brazil have attempted to play down reports of a feud with Arsenal over their handling of Gabriel Jesus, who has travelled for international duty despite his ongoing injury rehabilitation.

Reports in recent days have suggested that Gabriel Jesus’ call-up by Brazil for the November internationals generated discontent behind the scenes at Arsenal, but Brazil staff have attempted to allay fears of a feud with the Gunners.

“There is great alignment of information (between the national team and Arsenal),” Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar told a press conference.

“The club always has a different philosophy to the national team, I know how it works. But with relationships and the exchange of information, we want the best.

“We have been monitoring the situation since the injury. Having maintained contact with the club doctor and the athlete, we know that he is recovering from an injury to the back of his right thigh.

“He has already begun his physical adaptation on the field, he has not played yet. When he arrives, he will go through all evaluations and we will continue with the final rehabilitation process.

“We have no decision on when he will play, but it is important to have him close and we called up 24 players for that reason. The player was willing to come, wanting to come, and we value him a lot.”

The expectation was that Jesus would be out of action until after the international break at a minimum, and his fitness situation clearly remains uncertain.

Brazil boss Fernando Diniz isn’t jumping to any conclusions, and he’s willing to cut Jesus from the squad if he’s not fit. But he’s clearly not taking any chances on potentially missing out on the striker if he is fit.

Diniz previously claimed that the primary reason to call up Jesus was because of what happened in the last break, when they avoided calling up Gabriel Martinelli only for the winger to prove his fitness before their games.

“In the last squad, we hadn’t called up Martinelli from Arsenal,” Diniz recalled.

“He didn’t report to the CBF (the Brazilian Football Confederation) in a very complete way, so we didn’t imagine that Martinelli would be ready to play against Venezuela and Uruguay, and [then] he was ready to play before our games.

“Because of this too, we’re going to bring Gabriel [Jesus] in to find out his real condition, because we still have 15 days to go until the games, so we believe he could be fit enough to play, because I like him a lot.

“We have 24 players on the list, and if anything happens to him we won’t need to change the squad.”

Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes have also been called up alongside Jesus, so there will be a strong Arsenal contingent for Brazil over the break.
