Arsenal fans will be hoping that Takehiro Tomiyasu‘s injury, that he picked up against Sevilla on Wednesday night, will not lead to yet another period on the sidelines for the defender.

Takehiro Tomiyasu started for Arsenal against Sevilla but did not emerge for the second half, Oleksandr Zinchenko coming on as his replacement.

After the game, Mikel Arteta, who also lost Bukayo Saka to injury, told the media, “Yeah, he had some discomfort in the first half and we didn’t want to take any risks.

“He’s played a lot of minutes and obviously having Alex Zinchenko on the bench ready to come in, I think it was the right decision.”

Tomiyasu has been plagued by injuries since he arrived at Arsenal in 2021 from Bologna.

Knee and calf problems have already contributed to him missing 27 matches since his arrival.

This season, however, the 25-year-old seemed to have put his problems behind him, featuring in 10 of Arsenal‘s 11 Premier League matches (missing the other one through suspension).

He has also played in both League Cup matches and started three of Arsenal‘s four Champions League matches, coming on as a sub in the other.
