In a light-hearted moment during an NBC Sports game, William Saliba, the young Arsenal centre-back, amusingly mistook former Arsenal player Philippe Senderos for Everton manager Sean Dyche.

We can’t believe it either

William Saliba, the 22-year-old Arsenal centre-back, inadvertently caused a stir on social media by confusing a former Arsenal player for Everton manager Sean Dyche.

During an NBC Sports quick-fire game, Saliba was asked to identify ex-Gunners stars.

He struggled to recognise several former players, including Denilson, Manuel Almunia, and Eduardo.

The humorous mix-up occurred when he was shown a photo of Philippe Senderos, a former Switzerland central defender and Arsenal player from 2003 to 2010. Saliba, mistaking him for Sean Dyche, asked, “It’s the coach of Everton?” to which he was corrected and laughed along with fans online.

The similarity between Dyche and Senderos, apart from being bald, is not typically noted.

Senderos, primarily a squad player at Arsenal, won the FA Cup and Community Shield before playing for teams like AC Milan, Everton, Fulham, Valencia, Aston Villa, Grasshoppers, Rangers, Houston Dynamo, and Chiasso.

On the other hand, Dyche had a career as a centre-back with Nottingham Forest, Chesterfield, Bristol City, Luton Town, Milwall, Watford, and Northampton Town, marking a stark contrast in their football journeys.

Despite this mix-up, Saliba did successfully identify Yaya Sanogo, another former Arsenal player.
