Arsenal are considering recalling Marquinhos from Nantes unless his situation changes before the January window, according to a report.

The Mirror report that Marquinhos’ loan to Nantes is under close observation by Arsenal at the moment, and the Gunners could look to mutually terminate the loan and send him somewhere else in January.

There’s no clarity on whether Marquinhos’ loan deal actually contains a break clause, but it would be possible to end the loan early if all parties came to an agreement in January.

The same outlet adds that Olympiacos, Nottingham Forest, Bologna, Empoli, and Frosinone all showed an interest in Marquinhos over the summer.

It’s certainly true that Marquinhos isn’t playing as much as he’d want to be with Nantes so far this season.

Following his loan move on August 12th, Marquinhos played five times in Nantes’ first seven games, but only started one of those matches.

In total, Marquinhos spent just 88 minutes on the pitch in that first month and a half on loan.

The Brazilian winger has since dropped out of the squad completely, but that’s because he’s currently playing at the Pan American Games.

Marquinhos has three assists in three games at the u23 tournament, helping Brazil to top their group and progress to the semi-finals, where they’ll face Mexico.

With Marquinhos’ impressive form with Brazil, the hope is that he either breaks into the Nantes team on his return, or draws enough interest that he can leave for another good side in January.
