Arsenal winger Marquinhos is on loan with FC Nantes this season, but he’s taken some time away from the Ligue 1 club to play for the Brazil u23s at the Pan American Games over the last week.

Marquinhos started all three games in the group stage of the competition, playing 74 minutes against the USA in a 1-0 win, before providing an assist against Colombia in a 2-0 victory.

The 20-year-old was in the starting lineup again for Brazil’s match against Honduras over the weekend, and he found himself promoted to the role of captain on the day.

The young winger didn’t let his side down, and in the 52nd minute, he set up Brazil’s opening goal.

Marquinhos was on corner-taking duty, and he curled a cross into the six-yard box for Ronald Cardoso Falkoski to head home.

Just four minutes later, the Arsenal man repeated the trick, putting another corner on Gustavo Martins head for 2-0.

With the game and the group pretty much wrapped up, Marquinhos came off in the 62nd minute. Brazil went on to score a third in the 81st minute to put a cherry on top.

Brazil topped their group with a perfect record, winning three games, scoring six goals, and conceding none.

They’ll progress from Group B to the semi-finals with the United States, who won both of their remaining games after losing to Brazil.

In Group A, Chile won all three games to progress as group winners, whilst Mexico won one, drew one, and lost one to join them as runners-up.

As a result, Group A runners-up Mexico will face Group B winners Brazil in the semi-final, which will take place on Wednesday, November 1st at 23:00 GMT.

If Brazil win that match, they’ll play the final against Chile or the USA on Saturday, November 4th at 23:00 GMT. If they lose, they’ll play the third-place match against one of the same two sides on the same day at 18:00 GMT.
