Arsenal have drawn Peterborough United in the next round of the EFL Trophy, with the match to take place within the fortnight.
The EFL have completed their draw for the EFL Trophy round-of-32, with the Arsenal u21s set to face Peterborough United away from home.
Arsenal finished as runners-up in their EFL Trophy group, which guaranteed they’d face one of the group winners away from home in the next round.
The draw was then regionalised, with two sets of teams in the Northern Section and two sets in the Southern Section.
So Arsenal only had four potential opponents from the 31 other teams in the competition, and Peterborough United were one of them.
The Arsenal u21s have faced Peterborough United in this competition before, losing 1-0 in 2019, so they’ll be looking for revenge on this occasion.
But there’s a lot of turnover in youth teams from season to season, so it’s unlikely that experience will have taught the current side much ahead of this year’s game.
The match is set to take place during the week commencing December 4th.
The Arsenal u21s have a game scheduled for December 3rd against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League 2, so you’d imagine the Gunners will push for the EFL Trophy game to be as late in the week as possible.
That Wednesday, December 6th, seems a likely candidate for the fixture.
