Arsenal have emerged as key competitors in the quest to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, whose valuation has soared from an initial €20m to an estimated €45-50m.
The 20-year-old Slovenian international, who joined the Bundesliga side in July 2023, has been in stellar form, netting six goals in 16 games this season.
According to reports from Calciomercato, Arsenal are “in particular” showing significant interest and have already initiated contact with the player’s representatives.
Šeško’s agent revealed that talks had previously been held with Serie A giants AC Milan, fuelling speculation that the San Siro could be a future destination for the striker.
Calciomercato further mentioned that both the player and AC Milan are open to the idea of joining forces. However, securing the deal will not be straightforward due to multiple influencing factors, including Arsenal’s keen interest.
The striker’s burgeoning reputation is not solely down to his exploits on the club stage. On the international scene, Šeško has already earned 23 caps for Slovenia, scoring nine goals.
His current market value stands at €30m as of 18 October 2023, which is also his highest market value to date.
Despite his young age, he has a long-term contract with RB Leipzig, set to expire in June 2028.
Arsenal’s interest is said to have been longstanding, and their close relationship with Šeško’s camp might give them an edge in negotiations. The club sees the young forward as a valuable addition, especially given their proactive approach to squad enhancement.
Stefano Pioli‘s AC Milan also view Šeško as a highly sought-after asset, but they face “fierce competition” from other clubs, notably Arsenal.
Šeško boasts a variety of accolades despite his tender age, including top goal scorer in 21/22 and Austrian Player of the Season in 2023. He has also won the German Super Cup, is a three-time Austrian champion, and an Austrian cup winner.
