After links with Arsenal in recent months, Pedro Neto’s blistering start to the season has been cut short by a potentially serious hamstring injury.
As Pedro Neto faced off against Newcastle United with Wolves on Saturday, it initially looked like a continuation of his excellent start to the new campaign.
Neto set up Wolves’ opening goal in the first half, his seventh assist in just 10 games this season, in addition to his one goal against Luton Town.
But the rest of the game didn’t go as planned, as the winger was forced off with a hamstring injury.
Neto pulled up mid-sprint, clutched the back of his leg, and was substituted on top of a stretcher.
Given the stretcher, it’s fair to assume the hamstring injury is probably a grade two or three, though we won’t know for sure until further assessments are undertaken by Wolves.
That would mean at least a month on the sidelines for Neto, and possibly as many as three if he’s unlucky.
This won’t necessarily affect Arsenal’s apparent pursuit of Neto, as a January transfer already looked unlikely.
The Telegraph recently reported that Neto had made a visit to the office of sporting director Matt Hobbs, informing him he wouldn’t push for a transfer in January.
From a Wolves point of view, they had no plans to sell Neto mid-season anyway.
But it’s another injury for Neto, who has spent the majority of the last two seasons on the sidelines. That could well have an impact on Arsenal’s interest in a move.
