Four years after initially setting their sights on Dani Olmo, Arsenal are once again keen on bringing the midfielder to North London.

But this time, they find themselves vying with Chelsea for his signature.

Arsenal fans may remember the club opting for Dani Ceballos over Olmo in the past, a move that turned out to be less than successful.

Could this be a second chance for the Gunners to correct that mistake?

According to a recent report, Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to sign RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

The Spanish midfielder, who is contracted until 2027, has expressed a desire to leave Germany, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Despite extending his contract last summer, Olmo appears ready for a new challenge.

Chelsea’s less than stellar start to the Premier League season seems to have heightened their interest in bolstering their midfield. However, they face competition from Arsenal, who view Olmo as a solution to their goalscoring woes.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have been leading the line for Arsenal but have been lacklustre in the goals department. Mikel Arteta apparently believes an attacking midfielder like Olmo could be instrumental in resolving that issue.

Nevertheless, Olmo reportedly has his sights set on a return to Barcelona, his boyhood club, complicating Arsenal’s pursuit further.

RB Leipzig have slapped a £60m buy-out clause on Olmo, which could be a stumbling block for the Spaniards given their financial constraints.

Olmo has been on Arsenal’s radar before.

Journalist Alberto Pereiro reported back in 2019 that Olmo was on the list of several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Valencia.

However, Arsenal opted for Dani Ceballos, who turned out to be a disappointment.

At that time, Olmo was valued at €40m and was playing for Dinamo Zagreb. His performances against teams like Atalanta and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League had put him on the radar of top clubs.

Arsenal are revisiting an old target in Dani Olmo but now have to contend with Chelsea in their pursuit. Given Arsenal’s previous misstep of opting for Dani Ceballos, this could be an opportunity for the club to make amends. However, with a £60m price tag and Olmo’s preference for Barcelona, Arsenal’s path to signing the midfielder is far from straightforward.
