Dinamo Zagreb star Dani Olmo was on the radar of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Valencia over the summer, according to reports in Spain.

Journalist Alberto Pereiro told Radioestadio that Dinamo Zagreb were asking for €40m for Olmo this summer. Arsenal were interested, but they ended up signing Ceballos instead. Tottenham Hotspur were also interested, but they brought in Giovani Lo Celso.

Even Valencia expressed an interest but didn’t act on it. In the end, Olmo just wasn’t the first-choice option for any of the big clubs he could’ve joined, and he was unfortunate that those clubs had no trouble signing the players ahead of him on their shortlists.

Without the option to join a team of the stature of Arsenal, Olmo decided to remain with his current club. Not a bad fall-back option, given Dinamo have Champions League football this season.

Olmo has six goals and six assists in 17 appearances this season, mostly playing an attacking midfield role but occasionally moving out onto the wings. He performed excellently against Atalanta and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, but he struggled a bit more in the defeat to Manchester City.

The 21-year-old is keeping himself on the radar of the big clubs with his season so far though, so we may well see one of them go back in for him next summer.

Given the injured Dani Ceballos’ permanent future at Arsenal is far from certain, that could open up a door for Olmo, whom the club also asked about in 2018, to take his place.
