Arsenal forward Billy Vigar joined Eastbourne Borough FC last month on a season-long loan, looking to get his first taste of senior football.

The 19-year-old went on loan to Derby County last season, but it was a youth loan, with the forward playing for the Derby u21s in the Premier League 2 and the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

As a result, Saturday’s debut for Eastbourne Borough was Vigar’s first competitive fixture playing for a senior football team, as they took on Hampton and Richmond.

It didn’t take long for the teenager to make his mark. With less than 18 minutes on the clock, Vigar latched onto a cross at the far post, burying a diving header from close range for 1-0.

The Arsenal youngster almost scored a second shortly after the half-time break, but he was denied from a tight angle.

Vigar ended up playing 79 minutes of the contest, and his loan side saw out the clean sheet for a 1-0 victory.

It was the perfect start for Vigar, and leaves Eastbourne Borough as one of 10 National League South teams to win their opening game.

The side will travel away to Farnborough for their next game on Saturday, 12th August at 15:00 BST.
