Fabrizio Romano reports that Lazio and Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement on an €18m (£15.5m) deal for Matteo Guendouzi.

The transfer involves a fixed fee of €13m, with another €5m in add-ons. Talks are ongoing over personal terms, with a medical expected at the beginning of this week.

Santi Aouna of FootMercato confirms that Marseille and Lazio are in agreement over the €18m transfer.

Arsenal will profit from the move, as they had a sell-on clause in Guendouzi’s contract. According to the Mirror, the clause was set at 15%.

As a result, Arsenal will receive a maximum of €2.7m (£2.32m) for the transfer, and a minimum of €1.95m (£1.68m), depending on whether the add-on conditions are met.

Whilst not a huge figure, it brings the total money received by Arsenal for Guendouzi to around €12-13m, around the same as Marseille are selling him for (if you deduct the amount they’re sending to Arsenal).

Considering the uproar at Guendouzi’s price at the time of his Arsenal sale, that’s certainly interesting to note.

Guendouzi had a difficult end to the 2022/23 campaign, and Marseille commissioned agents to find him a new club.

Marseille president Pablo Longoria viewed the midfielder as a saleable asset, and surplus to requirements in their current squad.

There were links to the Premier League, but after those faded, a transfer to Serie A became the most likely outcome.
