Discussions are advancing, but the type of deal — loan or permanent — is still being determined. Forest are willing to pay £30million to take the Portuguese left-back, who has also attracted interest from Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg in Germany. The 23-year-old wants to stay in the Premier League, though, meaning Steve Cooper’s side are in the driving seat. The Gunners agreed to let keeper Alex Runarsson move to Cardiff on loan last week and a final decision on Tavares is expected imminently. On Thursday, Arsenal played a three-by-30minutes, behind-closeddoors friendly with promoted Luton, which they won 3-0. Luton are without a game this weekend as their fixture with Burnley has been postponed because building works to bring Kenilworth Road up to Premier League level are not yet complete. Keeper David Raya played for 60 minutes following his move from Brentford, and Oleksandr Zinchenko featured after returning from a calf injury.

Nottingham Forest have shown a clear intent to bolster their squad by earmarking Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares as their top transfer target.

The East Midlands club is reportedly prepared to offer up to £30 million for the Portuguese left-back, putting them ahead of other interested European clubs.

Having previously attracted attention from Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, Tavares has expressed a preference to remain in the Premier League.

This seemingly places Steve Cooper’s Forest in pole position to secure his signature.

Despite the swirling transfer rumours, Tavares is currently focused on his training with Arsenal, following his return after a loan stint with Marseille last season.

Photographs circulating on Instagram show him engaged in training drills with his teammates.

The 23-year-old’s future has been a hot topic in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Forest have already tabled a bid, and with negotiations ongoing, it seems a move could soon be confirmed.

While several teams have shown interest in the former Benfica player, Forest’s formal bid has notably been the first from any Premier League club.

This proactive approach by Forest may see them win the race for Tavares, especially given the player’s desire to stay in England.

While Nottingham Forest’s £30m proposal is a significant statement, it remains to be seen whether the offer will be accepted by the North London club.

Meanwhile, in Arsenal news unrelated to the potential transfer, the Gunners emerged victorious in a three-by-30 minutes friendly against Luton, winning 3-0. David Raya, following his transfer from Brentford, showcased his skills for 60 minutes.

Speaking about the competition Raya offers Aaron Ramsdale, Arteta said, “The way I see them training, I saw a training session they did the other day, it was fantastic.

“I think the connection that they have straight away is really good, but this is something that doesn’t surprise me. This is what I expect from players. It’s the same that I expect when I brought Declan.

“What is their reaction? Hopefully really, really positive because the team wants to be better. If that’s not the reaction, the team doesn’t want to be better, then I will be worried. Then we haven’t created an environment that we want at this club.”

Additionally, Oleksandr Zinchenko marked his return after recovering from a calf injury.
