Fabrizio Romano reports that Nottingham Forest have submitted a bid to sign Nuno Tavares from Arsenal on a permanent deal this summer.

Negotiations are reportedly ongoing on the player’s side as well, and Romano adds that the deal is on.

Reports have linked Tavares with a number of teams in recent months, but there’s always been a suggestion that the player would prefer to stay in England. It looks like Forest might now be offering him that opportunity.

Football.London recently reported that both Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg had made approaches for Tavares, but the player wanted to continue to play in the Premier League.

With two years left on his deal, Arsenal would be open to selling the former Benfica man, but they were yet to receive any offers from their Premier League rivals. This offer from Forest is the first formal bid to be reported.

West Ham United were also reportedly interested, but they’re yet to make an approach.

With no word on the size of Forest’s bid for Tavares, it’s hard to say how likely it is to succeed. But it certainly gets the ball rolling.

Tavares finally made his return to training with Arsenal recently, after his loan spell with Marseille last season and subsequent participation in the u21 European Championship over the summer.

The defender didn’t initially have a number on his shirt or his shorts in training pictures, after he lost the number 20 to Jorginho. But he’s now seemingly been assigned the number 28.

Marseille had looked at making Tavares’ deal permanent after his loan, but they didn’t have an option to buy and didn’t end up agreeing on a price before sending him back to Arsenal.
