Burnley are definitely interested in a loan move for Albert Sambi Lokonga, but it’s not currently a priority transfer for them, according to a report.

Andy Jones reports for The Athletic that Burnley do hold an interest in a loan for Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga, and he is a target for the promoted Premier League club.

However, that move is not currently seen as a priority, with Burnley also chasing free agent Andros Townsend and Troyes’ Wilson Odobert.

Sacha Tavolieri recently reported that talks had advanced between Arsenal and Burnley to find an agreement on a loan with an option to buy for Lokonga.

Tavolieri added that the option could become an obligation if Lokonga makes a certain number of appearances for Burnley.

But The Athletic seem to be suggesting the move isn’t as close as those reports are making out.

Arsenal haven’t been averse to a loan with an obligation to buy in the past, as we’ve seen with the likes of David Ospina and Pablo Mari.

Mari signed for AC Monza on an initial loan last summer, but the Serie A club had an obligation to buy if they avoided relegation and he made a certain number of appearances.

After hitting both of those targets, Mari’s deal to move to Italy permanently was quickly finalised.

Lokonga returned to training with Arsenal this week after an injury absence during the early stages of pre-season.

Speaking in an earlier interview on YouTube, Lokonga hinted that he could make a summer move in search of minutes.

“I don’t know, I will try to go somewhere I will play,” Lokonga said of his plans for next season. “That’s the most important thing, to have some games and play game after game.”

Burnley have been tracking the Arsenal midfielder closely, with manager Vincent Kompany knowing the player well from their time together at Anderlecht.

Arsenal signed Lokonga from Anderlecht for around £15m plus add-ons in 2021.
