Talks have advanced between Arsenal and Burnley for Albert Sambi Lokonga to complete a move on loan with a purchase clause, according to a report.

Sacha Tavolieri reports that talks have advanced between Arsenal and Burnley to find an agreement on a loan with an option to buy for Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The proposed option could become an obligation if Lokonga makes a certain number of appearances for Burnley, as we’ve seen with other Arsenal players like David Ospina and Pablo Mari in the past.

Mari signed for AC Monza on an initial loan last summer, but the Serie A club had an obligation to buy if they avoided relegation and he made a certain number of appearances.

After hitting both of those targets, Mari’s deal to move to Italy permanently was quickly finalised.

Tavolieri adds that Lokonga was initially considering a move to Spain, but the transfer to Burnley is currently his most concrete option and is viewed as an opportunity for him to prove himself in Premier League football.

Lokonga has been absent from Arsenal’s pre-season tour with an injury, but it now looks like he’s set for a move instead of returning to action with the Gunners.

Speaking in a recent interview on YouTube, Lokonga hinted that he could make a summer move in search of minutes.

“I don’t know, I will try to go somewhere I will play,” Lokonga said of his plans for next season. “That’s the most important thing, to have some games and play game after game.”

Burnley have been tracking the Arsenal midfielder closely, with manager Vincent Kompany knowing the player well from their time together at Anderlecht.

Sevilla were another club chasing Lokonga going into the summer, but that was before sporting director Monchi left for Aston Villa. Burnley now appear to be the favourites.

Arsenal signed Lokonga from Anderlecht for around £15m plus add-ons in 2021.
