Konstantinos Mavropanos has been proposed as a potential replacement for Jurrien Timber at Ajax, with Timber closing in on a move to Arsenal.
Arsenal and Ajax appear to be in the final stages of completing the transfer of Jurrien Timber, leaving the Eredivisie side with a gap at the back.
In assessing the potential replacements for Timber at Ajax, Voetbal International’s Sam Planting suggests that Konstantinos Mavropanos could be an option, particularly given his links to technical director Sven Mislintat.
“At both Arsenal and VfB Stuttgart, [Sven Mislintat] signed centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos,” Planting points out.
“A new reunion between Mislintat and the nineteen-time Greek international is not inconceivable, given the excellent development that Mavropanos has made in the Bundesliga.
“Mislintat’s connections could therefore provide Ajax with an impressive new defense leader.”
Funnily enough, that move would end up giving Arsenal a bit of a financial boost.
Mavropanos has a sell-on clause in his Stuttgart contract, so if he moves to Ajax, Arsenal would take home some of the proceeds.
But Ajax aren’t the only club Mavropanos has been linked with.
Earlier in the summer, LondonWorld reported that Napoli were looking to sign Mavropanos in the wake of Kim Min-jae’s likely departure.
Inter Milan, Fulham, Wolves, and West Ham are all reportedly interested in Mavropanos as well.
Mavropanos has been linked with a transfer away from Stuttgart since before he even officially joined them.
Reports last spring suggested he was going to make his loan move permanent and then immediately leave, which didn’t happen.
But after another year battling relegation with Stuttgart, you’d imagine the 25-year-old might feel the time is now right to move on.
Stuttgart only avoided relegation with a win in their relegation play-off against Hamburg, having finished 16th in the Bundesliga regular season.
