Liverpool are expected to make an offer for Arsenal target Romeo Lavia in the coming weeks, with Southampton asking for £50m.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool joined the race for Romeo Lavia last Monday, and they remain keen to sign him even with the additions of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Romano adds that Arsenal are also very interested, but a move would depend on the potential exit of Thomas Partey.

As it stands, Southampton are looking for a fee of £50m, which Romano claims is why neither club have yet made a bid.

Arsenal are also focusing on tying up deals for Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber, having already signed Kai Havertz earlier in the window.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have made direct contact with Lavia and Southampton, and they’re the two clubs leading the race for his signature, but they’re yet to formalise an offer.

But various sources suggest that could be set to change in the coming weeks.

Sacha Tavolieri claims Liverpool are expected to make an offer in the coming weeks, as Jurgen Klopp loves the player and has told him he wants him for their project in the 2023/24 campaign.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT also report that Liverpool are preparing an opening offer, moving ahead of Chelsea in the race for the signing.

Earlier in the year, Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail initially broke the news that whilst Rice remains Arsenal’s top-priority target, the Gunners also had Lavia on their summer shortlist.

David Ornstein then confirmed that Arsenal admire Lavia as an option for a midfield signing.

“I think they will be looking for high-calibre signings that can take them on,” Ornstein told FIVE. “They’ve got interest in loads of players, no doubt…it’s not just [Declan] Rice and [Moises] Caicedo. Players like Romeo Lavia are admired by Arsenal.”

With Arsenal closing in on Rice, Lavia could be the next player they target this summer. But it looks like it will depend on outgoings.

Lavia joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, with a £40m buyback clause in his contract.

However, that clause is only active from the summer of 2024, so this summer represents an opportunity for another club to take advantage.
