Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Romeo Lavia this summer, with the midfielder joining Moises Caicedo on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist.

Fabrizio Romano reports on his YouTube channel that Arsenal are keeping an eye on Romeo Lavia and following his situation, but there’s still nothing advanced at the moment.

Arsenal have a number of options in mind for the summer window, including a return for Moises Caicedo, so there are no guarantees which avenue they’ll pursue.

Romano also lists Chelsea as an interested party for Lavia, having previously attempted to sign the player in the summer 2022 window.

Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail broke the news earlier this month that Arsenal had shown an interest in Lavia, with the Gunners looking to sign up to two central midfielders in the upcoming window.

Lavia joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, with a £40m buyback clause in his contract.

However, that clause is only active from the summer of 2024, so this summer represents an opportunity for another club to beat City to the punch.

Then there’s the possibility of Southampton’s relegation, as they remain 20th and two points away from escaping the relegation zone despite having played an extra game.

If they go down, Lavia is likely to push for a move and Southampton may look to cash in.

With the threat of City’s buyback clause becoming active, Southampton’s top-flight status uncertain, and multiple top clubs tracking Lavia’s progress, a summer move seems fairly inevitable.
