Arsenal goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri shared an emotional message with the SJK Seinajoki fans after concluding his loan spell with the club.
20-year-old Arsenal keeper Ovie Ejeheri played his final match on loan with SJK Seinajoki on Saturday, keeping a clean sheet in a home match against FC Honka.
Ejeheri’s loan went on for a bit longer than most Arsenal loanees, as the Finnish league operates on a calendar-year basis, but it finally came to an end this weekend.
After the game, Ejeheri shared a message with the SJK fans.
“So grateful to God to have spent the last six months in Seinäjoki,” Ejeheri wrote on Instagram.
“Met so many people I won’t forget for the rest of my life, and shared great memories with.
“Looking back, one of the best decisions in my life, to come to Finland. Thank you to everyone who made it amazing!”
Ejeheri had impressed on that initial loan to Chelmsford at the start of 2022/23, keeping 12 clean sheets in 25 appearances. He even earned a reputation as a bit of a penalty-save specialist, after keeping out two spot-kicks in two games.
But the loan to the National League South (the English sixth tier) could only take the goalkeeper so far, and the chance to step up to the Finnish first tier in January was one Arsenal and Ejeheri weren’t keen to turn down.
Things went just as well for Ejeheri at SJK, as he kept nine clean sheets in 18 competitive appearances for the team.
The Arsenal youngster left his second loan club on top of the league with two games in hand over second place.
In all, Ejeheri has made 43 appearances this season, keeping 21 clean sheets, an excellent record. The big question now is over what’s next.
Assuming he’s not immediately involved with Arsenal, Ejeheri should draw plenty of interest in the summer market, whether that’s for another loan or a permanent transfer.
