Timothy Castagne is definitely not Arsenal’s first-choice signing this summer despite a recent enquiry, with other Premier League clubs interested.
Timothy Castagne has been linked with a potential move to Arsenal in recent weeks, and Chris Wheatley confirms that the Gunners did ask Leicester City about the player.
But whilst Castagne is an option for Arsenal, he’s “definitely not” the club’s first choice.
Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth are all interested in the Belgian defender as well, so it currently looks unlikely he’ll end up in north London.
The club’s right-back options have been very thin in recent months, with Takehiro Tomiyasu out injured and Cedric Soares on loan.
Though Tomiyasu’s return will give Arteta two strong options, along with Ben White, Cedric is expected to leave, so it may still be a good idea to sign another right-back.
Tomiyasu’s fitness doesn’t seem like something the club can rely upon, and even if he’s fit, he can always get minutes at centre-back.
The Japan international is more than capable in a more central role, which is where he often plays for his country.
But it appears Arsenal have other priorities for defensive signings, with Castagne further down the list.
The 27-year-old Leicester man made 42 appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
He’s also been a regular for Belgium since 2018, making 31 appearances and playing every minute of their recent World Cup campaign.
