Arsenal have scouted Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne this season as they consider a move for a backup right-back.

The Mirror report that on top of Arsenal’s primary big-name targets this summer, the Gunners are also considering a move for a backup right-back.

The club’s right-back options have been very thin in recent months, with Takehiro Tomiyasu out injured and Cedric Soares on loan.

Though Tomiyasu’s return will give Arteta two strong options, along with Ben White, it may still be a good idea to sign another right-back.

Tomiyasu’s fitness doesn’t seem like something the club can rely upon, and even if he’s fit, he can always get minutes at centre-back.

The Japan international is more than capable in a more central role, which is where he often plays for his country. So a new signing wouldn’t spell the end for his chances under Arteta.

Cedric seems unlikely to have a long-term future at the club, and he’ll probably look to move on in the summer.

Whether Arsenal feel that Castagne is the man to fill that potentially-vacant spot in the squad, we’ll have to wait and see.

The 27-year-old Leicester man has made 39 appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

He’s also been a regular for Belgium since 2018, making 31 appearances and playing every minute of their recent World Cup campaign.

Leicester City are deep in a relegation fight at the moment, in 18th place and two points behind Everton, with upcoming fixtures against Liverpool, Newcastle United, and West Ham United.

Should they go down, Arsenal might hope to do a cut-price deal for Castagne, whose contract expires in 2025.
