Earlier on Wednesday, David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Arsenal were close to an agreement with Chelsea over the signing of Kai Havertz, for a fee in the region of £65m.

By lunchtime, this was confirmed to be agreed:

Talks are still ongoing to finalise the structure of the deal, in terms of the instalments and add-ons, but personal terms are already in place.

Once the deal is done between the clubs, the medical will be scheduled.

Fabrizio Romano confirms that it will be a £65m deal, with Havertz and Arsenal getting closer to finalising the transfer.

Arsenal placed their second bid of £60m over the weekend, but reports suggested a compromise would be more likely around the £65m mark, and so it’s proving.

With Chelsea initially valuing Havertz at £75m and Arsenal’s opening bid of £55m, a £65m deal represents a compromise in the middle for both clubs.

A five-year deal is already reportedly agreed between Arsenal and Havertz.

Chelsea were under pressure to sell, as Havertz had informed the club he had no intention to sign a new contract.

The player had also turned down interest from Bayern Munich, preferring to stay in the Premier League.

James Olley reported for ESPN this week that Arsenal see Havertz as capable of playing in the front three, as well as in the number 10 or number 8 roles, making him a versatile addition to the squad.

The 24-year-old has been on international duty this week, scoring once and winning a penalty in his three appearances.
